Great Places Outside To Hide Your Spare House Key

Posted on

If you want to make sure that you are never going to have to worry about being locked out of your home, you will want to hide a spare key somewhere in your yard. To help you find the best hiding place for your needs, you will want to review the following suggestions.

Inside Of The Dog House

Do you have a dog that has a dog house outside? If you currently have a dog house or have access to one, you can use it as a great place to hide your spare house key. This is an ideal location because not many people that want to get into your house are going to assume that there is a key there, let alone if there is actually a dog in the dog house when they want to venture around your house. To secure the key, you will want to use industrial tape and tape it to the inside of the dog house, but more towards the roof so it is out of sight.

In The Soil Of A Flowerbed

Most criminals are not going to dig in the dirt in random spots in hopes that they will stumble across a spare key for your home. This is why it may be the ideal hiding place. Of course, you will need to protect the key from developing rust from the rainwater that will saturate the soil. To do this, you can use any plastic container that has a lid on it. To conserve space and reduce the size of hole you will have to dig, you can use a medication bottle, as long as it is big enough to hide the key. Glue the lid of the plastic container or bottle to the bottom of a flat rock or garden decoration. Then, dig a small hole that is just big enough to conceal the key. The rock or decoration will help you remember the exact location of the key for when you find yourself needing to use it.

Under A Stepping Stone

Since most criminals will not want to spend a lot of time picking up various things in your yard in hopes of locating a key, hiding one under a stepping stone is a great idea. You will want to place your spare key inside of a plastic sandwich bag that you will be able to seal so water will not reach the key. You can then use industrial tape to tape the plastic bag to the bottom of the stepping stone for an easy retrieval should you need it in the future.

With  just those three suggestions in mind, you should have a much easier time making sure that you are finding the best possible hiding spot for your spare house key. For more help, contact a business like Roland Park Lock And Key.
