The Best Places To Hide A Gun Safe

Posted on

A gun safe is designed to prevent a burglar from stealing your gun both by making it difficult to move the gun safe and by also making it difficult to open it. However, if a burglar is not able to find the gun safe in the first place, he or she will be even less likely to steal your guns.

In Your Home's Structure

Try placing your gun safe underneath the stairs if you have an opening built into it. An intruder may not think to look there. If you are willing to perform some home construction, one great idea is to create a cavity in a wall or floor where you can place your safe. Always consult with a structural engineer before you attempt to cut into a load-bearing wall. The best time to add a gun safe to a wall is when your home is being built originally. Then, you can hide the gun safe from view with a covering such as a painting.

Regardless of where you put your safe, it should be heavy and bolted. Even if it is impossible for a burglar to guess the combination to your safe, he or she will simply carry it to a location where a set of tools will cut through it.

In A Box

If you have a large cardboard box, simply place the gun safe inside the box. Many burglars will assume that the box may only contain Christmas decorations and not all of your valuables. Placing random objects on top of the safe will further disguise the hidden box.

Behind Large, Heavy Objects

Smaller safes are easier to hide. However, the smaller it is, the more of a risk that the burglar will be able to pick the safe up and carry it away. For this reason, you may want to sacrifice the small size and easy concealment for a safe that may only be able to be hidden behind the furnace or hot water heater. Placing the safe behind a heavy piece of furniture, such as a bookshelf, will cause burglars to be less willing to go through the trouble of moving the furniture.

If you have a second fridge that is old and no longer works, another trick is to remove the back of the fridge. Then, place the gun safe inside. With this trick, or any of the others listed below, an intruder may never know that you even have a gun safe. Visit http://scscincus.com for more information.
