Ideas That Will Help Prevent The Theft Of Valuables And Cash While Traveling

Posted on

If you are going to be traveling across the country this summer and won't be making reservations at specific motels ahead of time, take some steps to prevent the theft of valuables and cash that you are bringing along by utilizing the following ideas. As a result, you can enjoy your time away from home without needing to worry about theft occurring when you least expect it.

Hide Items In Ordinary Objects

Bring along an empty shampoo container, aspirin bottle, or another ordinary object that would not draw attention, and use these items to store cash, jewelry, or other small items. Make sure that the container that you are using has a lid and keep the stored items in a specific location inside of your vehicle or motel room so that you can locate them quickly.

If you do not want loose items to roll around inside of the container in case a stranger happens to pick it up, wrap the items being stored inside a couple layers of cloth or place a few cotton balls on top of the container's contents to prevent them from moving around.

Purchase A Portable Security Case

Purchase a portable security case that has a latch connected to it. Many security cases are made out of durable materials and have a lock installed on them. Set the combination for the lock prior to leaving for the trip. Create a code that won't be too difficult to remember and give it to one person who you trust so that you can contact them in case you accidentally cannot recall the numbers.

Place your phone, cash, credit cards, and jewelry inside of the case and attach it to your clothing or a tote bag. The case will protect valuables while you are dining, resting, walking, or participating in any other activity.

Use A Motion Detecting Bag Alarm

Secure a motion detecting bag alarm to a tote bag, purse, or piece of luggage. You can leave your personal items unattended as long as you are within listening distance. If your items are moved from their current location, an alarm will go off. The alarm may scare a burglar, resulting in them putting your items down. Otherwise, you can alert emergency personnel or attempt to retrieve your possessions on your own. Although this type of device won't prevent theft altogether, it can help minimize the risk of losing your valuables.

If each of thee ideas work well during your trip, use them when you will be traveling again in the future or for any other time that you will be away from home for an extended amount of time.
